2008 Annual Member Newsletter

Now that the legislative recess is over and the legislators are back on their regular schedules, we’re again moving forward to get our bills heard in the Government Operations Committee, sent to the Senate floor for passage and signed into law by the Governor.

Make no mistake about it, these are our objectives! We’ve been meeting with our lobbyists and have developed an agenda designed to meet these objectives and accomplish our goal!

Your grass roots efforts in contacting our legislators will continue to be an extremely effective and critically important tool in getting our collective voices heard and considered by our Senate members. In the coming weeks we will be advising you accordingly.

Your continued funding will provide the means whereby our collective efforts lead to the passage of a law that townships can use to regulate road end activities within their jurisdiction.

Your participation in both these activities is essential and appreciated!

Thank YOU for visiting our H.L.C.A. web site. It's important that you continue to

do so in order to stay informed about our legislative direction and over all general

activity. Please continue to do so often! And visit our links here too!!

The direction of the legislative bills we've introduced and passed at the House level

ARE VERY MUCH ALIVE in Lansing! As you know, our State Government

budget issues took the lead away from any standard policy consideration.

Michigan's Government all but shut down over budget issues recently.

Although legislators have found common ground for budget matters, it brought the

Michigan State Service Tax issue into the forefront of legislation along with

management of the budget resolve. Hence, with the budget currently in a state of

resolve, the Service Tax issue is now the center of attention in the political arena and

is required to be the priority until it's resolved.

Question: What does giving priority attention to the Service Tax issue have to do

with our bill movement?

Answer: It certainly slows things down a bit. Our lobbyists continue to lobby in our

best interest and are doing it with vigor. When the opportunity allows our bills to be

brought into the forefront of standard

WE ARE CERTAINLY ON THE POLITICAL RADAR IN LANSING,

WITHOUT QUESTION!!

State policy matters, we'll be first in line and

ready to present our point. We're certainly on top of this thought and push our

lobbyists hard to make certain we're on the minds of ALL legislators. When the

window of opportunity presents itself to us, we'll be there and ready!!

Question: When will our bills be addressed?

Answer: We can't say for certain. However, we anticipate soon. With the holiday

season upon us, legislators are gone alot and it's normal for policy issues to slow

down a bit during the holiday season.

It's our objective to be as ready as possible in order to move our bills forward at any

given moment of consideration. WE'RE EAGER AND READY TO GO!!!

Question: Is there anything that WE AS MEMBERS can do to enhance our

position and involvement in order to help our bills move more quickly?

Answer: YES>>> As you know, we've sent out association mailings to

members requesting YOU to participate by contacting your State Legislators directly

via U.S. Postal mailings, e-mail and even by phone!

THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO DO and KEEP DOING IT! This is at the

direction of our lobbyists in Lansing! Each letter YOU send carries the voice of

eleven people and it's heard loud and clear.

PLEASE VISIT OUR SITE OFTEN AND CONTINUE FOLLOWING OUR

DIRECTION FOR INVOLVMENTS THAT YOU CAN HELP WITH IN ORDER TO

GET OUR BILLS PASSED!!

1. Visit this site often.

2. When directed to participate in corresponding with legislators, do it promptly and

with continued efforts.

3. Don't stop contacting legislators. Send a letter voicing your request for your

State Senator to support House bills 4463 and 4464. Utilizing your own words to

make your point. Discuss why you feel it's important for your State Senator to

support these bills. Tell him/her what it means to YOU personally to pass these

bills into effect. (Remember, it's about local government agencies being able to

regulate access to Michigan's waters within their respective communities. It's NOT

about ELIMINATION, IT'S ABOUT REGULATION.) Historical use, State

economic impact, local economic resolve, employment, tourism and even property

values are a few issues to be considered and effected by passage of our bills.

(4463 & 4464)

4. When is enough, enough with regards to contacting legislators in Lansing? You'll

be the first to know! Don't stop corresponding with your legislators until you're

given advice to stop!! It's extremely important to follow this instruction!!!

We're directed by the State's most respected lobbying firm, they will advise

us as to when we should reduce our involvements overall.

THAT'S NOT HAPPENING UNTIL OUR BILLS ARE PASSED!!!

5. The absolute most important thing YOU can do is to follow these instructions

completely! Stay focused on the positive direction we're headed. Continue to

monitor this site, follow instructions for postivite Grass-Roots efforts and keep in

tune with us as much as possible.

ALWAYS REMEMBER......... THESE BILLS ARE FAR FROM BEING DEAD!!

REGARDLESS OF ANYTHING YOU MAY HEAR OR READ, WE ARE IN HIGH

GEAR WITHIN THE POLITICAL ARENA IN LANSING. UNTIL YOU HEAR

OTHERWISE FROM THIS WEB SITE....THINGS ARE VERY MUCH ALIVE,

MOVING IN A POSITIVE DIRECTION AND IN THE BEST INTERESTS OF US

ALL.

PLEASE FOLLOW THE DIRECTION OF THIS WEB SITE

It's the intention of the H.L.C.A. board and members to keep you informed and

positive about our involvements in Lansing. Trust in our efforts and follow

direcitons. Together WE can make a difference that will benefit our families well into
